Industry News: John Cena, Versace, Tully and More!

JOHN CENA TEAMS UP WITH NICKELODEON ON THREE PROJECTS: Pro-wrestler turned actor John Cena is teaming up with Nickelodeon this year on three different projects. VERSACE FAMILY UNDERLINES DISSATISFACTION WITH AMERICAN CRIME STORY: The Versaces came out on Monday saying they did not approve of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming American Crime Story, which focuses on the assassination of Gianni Versace. Murphy responded, saying he hoped they would give it a chance on Tuesday, which prompted an even stronger response from the family. “The company producing the series claims it is relying on a book by Maureen Orth, but the Orth book itself is full of gossip and speculation,” the family wrote. “Orth never received any information from the Versace family and she has no basis to make claims about the intimate personal life of Gianni Versace or other family members.” One of the sticking points seems to be Orth’s claim in Vulgar Favors that Versace was HIV positive. Penelope Cruz and Edgar Ramirez star. The show premieres on January 17th on FX at 10 p.m.

TULLY TRAILER DROPS: Charlize Theron is a frazzled mom of three in the teaser trailer for the Jason Reitman comedy Tully. Diablo Cody, writer for Juno and Young Adult, is penning the script. Tully stars Theron as Marlo, Mark Duplass as her brother and Mackenzie Davis as a young, quirky nanny. Tully hits theaters April 20th.

JENNIFER LOPEZ TO GUEST STAR IN WILL & GRACE: Jennifer Lopez will guest-star as herself and as her character from Shades of Blue (detective Harlee Santos), in an upcoming episode of Will & Grace. The air date and additional details have not been announced. The episode will be part of the Will & Grace extended return for a 16-episode first season and 13-episode second season. When the show was rebooted September 28th on NBC it was the network’s most-watched comedy in 12 years.
