The Scandals of 2015

Dec 9, 2015 577

When you look back at 2015, which scandals do you remember best? Let’s see… This year gave us sandwich pedophilia and deflated footballs. Oh, and divas licking doughnuts along with husbands of Kardashians overdosing at brothels. ...

The Lo Mein, the Taylor Swift, and Thou.

Dec 9, 2015 721

It’s being reported by The Telegraph that an Oxford professor, Charles Spence, has been doing research on what kind of music goes best with food.  The audio seasoning of Queen and Bruce Springsteen makes Indian food tastier, according to Spence.  Similarly, if you’re into sushi, some Sinatra will help wash it down. If you’re into Chinese food, you might want to consider a soundtrack full of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, according to Spence. Wine also benefits.  Although the late Keith Moon might question it, Spence recommends a good Cabernet Sauvignon be accompanied by “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by the Who, and the music of Blondie pairs up with a Chardonnay.  A little something to bear in mind, next time we see you at a wine fair. It Was 35 Years Ago Today. Where Were You?

Dec 8, 2015 560

Inspired in part by today’s Forgotten Favorite on WIN 104.9, around 8:30 this morning. Today marks the anniversary of the passing of John Lennon. You will note that I’m pretty much refusing to mention the specific circumstances, or the history, or the name of the man responsible.  This is in part because I refuse to play into the cult of celebrity that emerges from someone committing such a heinous act, also in the hopes that someday, no one will remember the perpetrator’s name.  I tend towards brightness in my everyday life, so I choose not to play along with giving someone name credit – because it’s exactly what people like that WANT. Instead, I’m choosing to remember the John Lennon that made great music, was in one of the biggest bands in the world, and ended up going from Angry Young Man to Proud Father and Family Man instead. It’s THAT man, THAT circumstance, worth remembering.  The closest I’ll get to the events of the day is recalling where I was,... ...

People Who Do Interesting Things…But Are Better Known as Celebrities.

Try this on: the 11-year-old kid who was number one in mixed martial arts for his specific age group, who also happened to be an actor in the Twilight series. Or the TV actor with Broadway credentials that does magic. Or the guitar player who also invented his own highly-regarded amplifier. Solve those mysteries, and 2o more, in this entry from our friends at cracked.com. – Todd Berryman Middays on WIN 104.9 ...

Some of Us…Aren’t So Good with Sports. This One’s for You.

Dec 4, 2015 449

Hi, I’m Todd, and I’m not so good when it comes to understanding sports. *The reaction I’m hoping for: “HI, TODD!” like it’s a 12-step program* *The reaction I’m likely to get: cricket noises* I’m REALLY not good at understanding sports.  Conversion, designated hitter, two-minute warning, whatever, I’m as blank as it gets.  (I’m assuming these are all the same sport…?  Auto racing, maybe?)  I mean, I root for our local teams, out of a sense of regional pride, but that’s the extent of it…I’m like “Hot Lips” Houlihan in the movie version of M*A*S*H, when she’s bungling the cheers during the football game, because I’m JUST THAT CLUELESS. So this article from buzzfeed.com – “25 Genius Tweets You’ll Only Get If You’re Clueless About Sport” – warmed my heart, because it speaks to me.  And tells me that I’m not alone on this. This is somewhat NSFW on a couple entries, but worth a chuckle, even for those who know what a furlong is.  Happy reading…and GO TEAM-ish. – Todd Berryman... ...

Boy Bands, Recreated with Pug.

Dec 2, 2015 404

Another one from the Buzzfeed guys.  In this case, the staff decided to recreate famous boy band album covers, including the Backstreet Boys’ Millennium, *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, and One Direction’s Four.  And then the pug decided to run off, just like Zayn. 🙂 Check out the results of their labors here.  It’s especially worth it to check out the phenomenon known as “ramen hair”… – Todd Berryman Middays on WIN 104.9 ...

Did you know that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade people know how to reuse helium? Or that all the balloons have to fit through a narrow tunnel, or they can’t be used in the parade? Or that, back in the day, they used to release all the balloons at parade’s end, until someone nearly crashed a plane as a result? More interesting behind-the-scenes facts about the parade, that you might not know about, can be found by looking over here… – Todd Berryman Middays on WIN 104.9 ...
